Any flat surface of about 20 x 40 feet with medium or high traction can become a speedway. Concrete, asphalt, and prepared or painted tennis and basketball courts work well. Set up an oval or road course with cones and use the composite chassis, metal-geared powertrain, independent suspension, and oil-filled coil-over shocks for versatile AWD on-road performance.

William Byron has ascended the professional ranks of auto racing rapidly. Going into his eighth season in the NASCAR Cup Series, the 27-year-old driver returns with crew chief Ryan “Rudy” Fugle, continuing the success they found together after being reunited from their NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series days. In 2025, Byron continues building his racing résumé behind the wheel of the iconic No. 24 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports.

Byron has amassed an impressive list of accomplishments, including a NASCAR national series championship. His record is especially notable because he first drove a race car only 10 years earlier. In 2018, he collected his fourth consecutive rookie-of-the-year award, and in 2019 he secured his first Cup Series playoff berth. He captured his first Cup Series win at Daytona International Speedway in 2020 and his second at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2021.

With the introduction of the Next Gen car in 2023, Byron won at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Martinsville Speedway, earned his fourth consecutive playoff appearance, reached the Round of 8 for the first time, and ended sixth in driver points. He collected a season-best six wins in 2023, reached his first Cup-level final four, and finished third in points.

Hendrick Motorsports signed Byron in August 2016 when he was a record-breaking Truck Series rookie. By the end of that season driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports, he had seven victories, 727 laps led, and three pole positions on the way to rookie-of-the-year honors with Fugle calling the shots. Although an engine failure kept him from the championship, it was the most successful debut season in series history.

In 2017, Byron moved to the NASCAR Xfinity Series for Hendrick Motorsports affiliate JR Motorsports. He won the series championship with four wins, two pole positions, 12 top-five finishes, 22 top-10s, and rookie-of-the-year honors. His title campaign included victories at Iowa Speedway, Phoenix Raceway, Daytona, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Hendrick Motorsports announced Byron's move to the Cup Series in August 2017. He took over the iconic No. 24 Chevrolet made famous by four-time Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon and his Rainbow Warriors team. Byron became only the second driver at the time to win rookie-of-the-year honors in each of NASCAR's three national series in back-to-back-to-back seasons.

Byron and crew chief Chad Knaus opened the 2019 season with the pole for the DAYTONA 500, then collected four additional poles, led 233 laps, and recorded five top-five and 13 top-10 finishes. He made his first Cup Series playoff appearance and ended the season 11th in points.

In 2020, Byron won the qualifying race at Daytona and returned to victory lane at the superspeedway in August, securing another playoff appearance. In 2021, reunited with Fugle, he won at Homestead-Miami, recorded 11 consecutive top-10 finishes, and finished 10th in points.

In 2022, Byron scored two wins in the first eight races at Atlanta and Martinsville, earned another playoff appearance, and reached the Round of 8 before finishing sixth in points. In 2023, he opened the year with back-to-back wins at Las Vegas and Phoenix, added three more wins, won at Texas during the playoffs, and reached his first Cup Series final four.

In 2024, Byron won the DAYTONA 500, Circuit of the Americas, and Martinsville Speedway for Hendrick Motorsports' 40th anniversary. He earned a sixth consecutive playoff appearance and second consecutive final four, finishing third in points.

As a child, Byron followed NASCAR and attended his first race at Martinsville Speedway in 2006. He became a regular on iRacing and began real-world racing in U.S. Legend Cars in 2013, winning 33 races and the U.S. Legend Young Lions National Championship. He moved to full-size stock cars in 2014, then competed across ARCA, CARS Super Late Model, and NASCAR Whelen series in 2015, earning six wins, five poles, and the ARCA Menards Series East championship.

Outside racing, Byron is passionate about education, faith, and community service. He studies strategic communication online at Liberty University, became an Eagle Scout in 2015, and received the Good Scout Award from the Mecklenburg County Boy Scouts of America in 2017. Away from school and the racetrack, he enjoys sports, fitness, iRacing, and golf, and follows the Carolina Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes.
