The Smartest and Best Club Trainer

E-flite took the world’s favorite club trainer and made it SMARTER with the Apprentice STS 1.5m. Its large size and 59-inch wingspan offer better visibility and the ability to handle more wind while learning to fly at an RC club flying field. Its inherently stable design plus SAFE technology featuring Beginner, Intermediate, and Experienced flight modes make it easy to fly successfully, especially with the help of an instructor. With the option to upgrade to SAFE Plus GPS, you get AutoLand and Virtual Fence features, plus the optional Landing Assist Sensor that automatically “flares” for smoother landings. The tricycle landing gear allows takeoffs and landings on grass, dirt, paved runway, and other surfaces — or install the optional floats to fly from water. The 30A telemetry-capable ESC provides real-time power data via compatible AirWare-equipped transmitters and approximate battery power remaining via the DXS LED indicators. The Ready-To-Fly Basic version includes the Spektrum DXS 2.4GHz transmitter — just add a battery and charger (or the Spektrum Powerstage 3 bundle SPMXPSA300). The included DXS transmitter can also be used with other BNF and BNF Basic aircraft after you learn to fly.

SAFE Technology Flight Modes

Beginner Mode: Pitch and bank angle limits prevent over-control. When sticks are released, the airplane returns to level flight automatically. Takeoffs are as simple as full throttle and a hand launch.

Intermediate Mode: More freedom in pitch and bank, but still prevents over-control. Beginner mode automatically activates and self-levels when the airplane descends below approximately 30 feet AGL and sticks are released.

Experienced Mode: No pitch or bank angle limits — full aerobatic capability including loops, rolls, and inverted flight. Panic Recovery activates by switching to Beginner Mode and releasing the sticks.

Panic Recovery: Switch to Beginner Mode and release the sticks at any time — SAFE technology automatically returns the airplane to level flight.

SAFE Plus GPS Features (Optional — SPMA3173 sold separately)

AutoLand: Hold a button to initiate a stabilized GPS-guided approach and landing near the initialization point. Gradually take over control as your skills improve.

Holding Pattern: Press a button to put the airplane into a GPS-guided holding circle above the initialization point. Press again to resume normal flight — great for handing off controls or regaining visual contact.

Virtual Fence: Creates an invisible boundary the airplane won’t fly past. When the boundary is reached, the airplane automatically turns back toward the initialization point and wags its wings to signal when you have control again.
